"And take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God." Ephesians 6:17

After meditating on the interesting list of parts of the armor that has served to reflect the last few days, today I find that the only part of the armor that is offensive is The Sword of the Spirit. The others are totally defensive.

.With the sword of the Spirit we can fight our way through the intense din of daily battle. This piece of armor tells me that it is an instrument that to use it will involve a very close personal encounter ... it is not a weapon like the revolver or submachine gun that can be used at a distance ... but rather that this weapon implies a very close personal encounter with the enemy.

.This sword described by Paul was a short sword, not a long one and this sword is precisely identified with the Word of God.

.If the sword of the Spirit is the Word of God… what does the word of God mean? It is undoubtedly the Written Word of God known as the Scriptures, whose origin is repeatedly attributed to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Even today, Scripture is the sword of the Spirit because the Lord uses it to break people's defenses, pierce their consciences, and keep them spiritually awake.

.Today, I cannot ignore the value of the Word and the power it has for daily battle. That Word encourages and comforts me, but it also leads me to confront the enemy with great power.

.Today, the Lord puts his sword in my hands again, so that I can use it both when resisting temptation, as the Lord did in the desert when he was tempted three times by the enemy, but also in evangelism.

.The Word of God is sharper than any two-edged sword. That is why today I should not be ashamed to use it, nor fail to confidently acknowledge that the Bible is the sword of the Spirit. When temptation comes, I need to firmly quote the powerful word of God today.

.The Word of God is dynamite in action to tear down the strongholds of the enemy and raise in their place the unshakable Kingdom of God.

.Lord, when your word is proclaimed, the hosts tremble and when your word is spoken my faith increases. If the press brings me bad news every morning, your word brings me good news every morning. While the world makes me tremble with your announcements, you make me tremble with joy with your promises.

.Today, I want and need to take up the sword of the Spirit to face the enemy of the soul in a very close encounter and in a very close encounter with my friends, neighbors and family to share the power of your word. Today, take the Sword of the Spirit in faith. Amen
